So Zak is right about Watchmen

I'm not the biggest fan of Watchmen but it occurs to me that one of its strengths is that it presents an oddity in heroic fiction: a compelling and differentiated cast of characters who are all wrong, said Zak.

Which made me sad, because Zak's post is titled "Don't be any of these people", and let's face it - it can be pretty cool being Rorschach, never surrendering, never compromising, or being Ozymandias and planning ten steps ahead of everyone else, or being old Sally and having a porn comic dedicated entirely to you.

Then I read Alan Moore's interview and, as Zak said, Moore isn't exactly quiet about his take on the characters. Yes, they're all wrong. And Moore's not amused by how people love the characters in Watchmen.

Maybe it's a case of "when writing a bad person, seek the good in them" with finding too much good in the bad, so it feels like the opposite - Rorschach's right-wingness and disgusting habits providing the contrast for his likable qualities.

And I really should've thought about it myself long ago, but then that's why I like Zak's blog. Life's easier when smart people think about stuff before you do and then talk to you about it.

Kelvin Green has a gift for summarizing things.

I don't know if there's anything that can be added to what Kelvin posted.  I can only repeat it.
